Goals - why are they so important?

A goal is only a dream until you commit it to writing. Writing them down on paper using a pen held in your own hand begins the process of programming your sub-conscious mind towards achieving your goal.

You should have short (12mths), medium (5yrs) and long term goals (10 to 15yrs). If you only set yourself goals that have a ten-year deadline, you will not have the thrill and reward of achieving on a regular basis. It is important to anchor the feeling of achieving your goals with a reward of some kind. By rewarding yourself your sub-conscious mind will know that good things happen when you reach your goals.

Breakdown your goals into manageable chunks - some with a deadline of a week, a month, three months, six months, one year, five years and ten years. And remember to reward yourself when you achieve a goal. Train your mind to associate a positive experience with achieving goals.

Also when you achieve your goals, make sure you set new ones! And don't set goals too low. If you don't need much, you won't achieve much or become much. Create a bigger need if you want to achieve more. Realise that there are no limits, other than those you set for yourself. But temper your enthusiasm with realism. If you do not, your mind will simply not believe you can achieve and your sub-conscious will just feed this back to you. Result being you will not even get close to your objective and you will unconsciously lose the belief that goals can help you design your life.
